Chapter 2 of 12: Middle School Anti-Bullying series by Debbie Dunn

Bullies, Bystanders, and Victims Middle School lesson plan: Chapter 2 of 12

Middle School students who participate in this set of twelve lesson plans focusing on Bullies, Bystanders of Bullying, and Victims of bullying-type behavior will receive the following benefits:

(1) They will become skilled in using the eight (8) tools of Anger Control developed by Dr. Tony Fiore. (Many thanks goes to Dr. Tony Fiore, also known as the Anger Coach, for freely providing these techniques to my readers. See more info about him in resource section.)

(2) Students who have been identified as bullies should decrease the instances of bullying-type behavior.

(3) Victims of bullying and bystanders of bullying will increase their ability to defuse bullying-type behavior.

(4) Students will increase their feelings of empathy for self and others.

Middle School lesson plan: The Confrontation

This is a Perception lesson plan for grades 5 to 9. It is built around a story called "The Confrontation." Steps 1 to 9 include the links to all nine sections of the lesson.

Joshua’s best friend Zach leaned over to Dustin and complained about their classmate George asking a dumb question in math class. Later on, Dustin purposely told George what Zach had said about him. The next day, George found Zach and pushed and hit him in revenge before running off. Will the confrontation keep going, or will the boys find a way to make amends?

Eighth grader Joshua was invited to a party at Dustin’s house. Dustin did his best to negatively peer pressure Joshua into drinking a beer. In return, Joshua did his best to positively peer pressure Dustin into drinking a Pepsi. Who will win?

Story Description: I used to teach at a middle school that had 6 feeder schools: 3 were K-6 and 3 were K-5. The newly entered sixth-and seventh-graders found it challenging to meet so many news kids. This story addresses the best way to expand your network of friends.
