Bullies, Bystanders, and Victims Middle School lesson plan: Chapter 5 of 12

Middle School students who participate in this set of twelve lesson plans focusing on Bullies, Bystanders of Bullying, and Victims of bullying-type behavior will receive the following benefits:

Middle School lesson plan: The Confrontation

This is a Perception lesson plan for grades 5 to 9. It is built around a story called "The Confrontation." Steps 1 to 9 include the links to all nine sections of the lesson.

Joshua’s best friend Zach leaned over to Dustin and complained about their classmate George asking a dumb question in math class. Later on, Dustin purposely told George what Zach had said about him. The next day, George found Zach and pushed and hit him in revenge before running off. Will the confrontation keep going, or will the boys find a way to make amends?

I. Read Perception story: Julie’s Big Challenge

A. Teacher reads story to the class called “Julie’s Big Challenge.”

B. Story Description: This conflict resolution story will be helpful to all students who find themselves being put-down by others. It will aid them in getting a healthier perspective about the motivations and strategies of some of their fellow students. In this story, Julie was once again being verbally attacked about her excessive body weight. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she had learned from her father to be sorry for those kids. She felt great compassion for kids who only knew how to make themselves feel better by putting others down.
